21. Defining the genetics of systemic autoimmunity in mouse models of lupus
Sammanfattning : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic multi-organ autoimmune disease considered a prototype for autoantibody and immune complex-mediated tissue injury. Although autoantibodies against a wide diversity of self-antigens are characteristically found in this disease, an important hallmark is the presence of autoantibodies to nuclear antigens. LÄS MER
22. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of human onchocerciasis
Sammanfattning : Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is a parasitic disease that affects more than 20 million people globally. The induction of pathology is directly related to the presence and destruction of the microfilarial stages (mf) of this filarial nematode. LÄS MER
23. Human genetic factors involved in immunity to Plasmodium falciparum infection
Sammanfattning : This study investigated the associations between IL-4 -590 C/T and IL-10 -1087 A/G polymorphisms and malariometric indexes in the Fulani and the Dogon ethnic groups living in sympatry in Mali and differing in susceptibility to malaria. The correlations between antibodies level and parasitological data as well as splenomegaly were assessed. LÄS MER
24. Immunological characteristics of a C-terminal fragment of the Plasmodium falciparum blood-stage antigen Pf332
Sammanfattning : Till date, there are no effective control strategies against the deadly disease of malaria, and millions of children across Africa, Oceania, Asia, and Latin America are at the mercy of this long term enemy of man every second that passes by. Other control measures combined with vaccination might help improve control strategy against malaria, but the development of vaccines face various challenges as well, due to the complexity of the parasites’ life cycle and other host factors. 25. Epigenetic changes and immunological features of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogenous and chronic inflammatory syndrome with the lungs as its main target organ. Clinically, COPD is characterized by airflow limitation, chronic respiratory symptoms, and many extrapulmonary comorbidities. LÄS MER
