  1. 1. Carbon metabolism in clear-water and brown-water lakes

    Författare :Jenny Ask; Jan Karlsson; Mats Jansson; Rolf Vinebrooke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clear-water lakes; brown-water lakes; primary production; bacterial production; benthic; pelagic; net ecosystem production; allochthonous organic carbon; CO2; DOC; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; limnologi; Limnology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The trophic state of lakes is commonly defined by the concentration of nutrients in the water column. High nutrient concentrations generate high phytoplankton production, and lakes with low nutrient concentrations are considered low-productive. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Food Quality for Zooplankton in Humic Lakes

    Författare :Kelly Gutseit; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; limnology; Hydrobiology; marine biology; Clear water lakes; Plankton; Seston; Elements; Fatty acids; Humic lakes; Food quality; Zooplankton; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; aquatic ecology; Marinbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Food quality affects growth, reproduction and community structure of zooplankton, and has implications for nutrient cycling and the transfer of energy and matter in aquatic food chains. While the issue of food quality in clear water lakes has received great recent attention, studies on food quality for zooplankton in humic lakes are scarce. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Methane dynamics in northern lakes : Insights from multi-scale observations

    Författare :Jonathan Schenk; David Bastviken; Magnus Gålfalk; Damien Maher; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Methane; Lakes; Variability; Sampling design; Models;

    Sammanfattning : Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas which is emitted to the atmosphere from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Current evidence indicates that lakes account for a large part of the global emissions of CH4, but their contribution is difficult to quantify because of large temporal and spatial variability in processes leading to CH4 fluxes from lakes to the atmosphere. 4. 4. Hydrodynamics of very shallow lakes - A study in Lake Krankesjön, Sweden

    Författare :Charlotta Borell Lövstedt; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alternative stable states; field measurements; reed; resuspension; wave damping; waves; differential heating; vegetation; convective currents;

    Sammanfattning : Shallow lakes have great ecological and recreational values. They are also largely affected by humans, mainly through eutrophication, and great efforts are therefore being put into the understanding of these ecosystems. The knowledge is however not complete, and more research is needed to manage these lakes in a sustainable way. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Acidification trends in Swedish lakes : an assessment of past water chemistry conditions using lake sediments

    Författare :Tom Korsman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeolimnology; acidification history; alkalization; acid deposition; land-use; lake sediments; near infrared spectroscopy; diatoms; multivariate calibration; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents temporal perspectives of lake acidification in Sweden. Sediment records have been used to study timing, trends and causes of acidification, and two different techniques for assessing past lake-water acidity are presented. LÄS MER
