11. Fiber-Optic Systems with Coherent Detection and Four-Dimensional Modulation
Sammanfattning : To increase the data rates of fiber-optic communication systems, modulation formats withhigher spectral efficiency and/or higher power efficiency than binary formats are of greatinterest. These formats require coherent detection and this thesis has been dedicated toinvestigating both novel modulation formats and two different types of coherent systems. LÄS MER
12. Controlling protein homeostasis through regulation of Heat shock factor 1
Sammanfattning : In order to thrive in a changing environment all organisms need to ensure protein homeostasis (proteostasis). Proteostasis is ensured by the proteostasis system that monitors the folding status of the proteome and regulates cell physiology and gene expression to counteract any perturbations. LÄS MER
13. An inductive approach to the modeling of lake water quality in dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes
Sammanfattning : To explore the interaction between elements of the watershed and lake water quality, a database large enough to approximate the generic population of dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes is assembled and analyzed with multivariate statistical methods in an inductive top-down approach. Utilizing the analytical capabilities of geographical information systems, the spatially distributed characteristics of land cover, soil and bedrock elements are identified and parameterized with respect to element morphology and hydrology. 14. Robust inference of gene regulatory networks : System properties, variable selection, subnetworks, and design of experiments
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, inference of biological networks from in vivo data generated by perturbation experiments is considered, i.e. deduction of causal interactions that exist among the observed variables. Knowledge of such regulatory influences is essential in biology. LÄS MER
15. Function and Regulation of B-cell Subsets in Experimental Autoimmune Arthritis
Sammanfattning : B lymphocytes play a significant role in autoimmune arthritis, with their function stretching beyond autoantibody production to cytokine secretion and presentation of autoantigen. However, the involvement and activation of different B-cell subset in the autoimmune response is not fully clear. LÄS MER
