Sammanfattning : Being the main channel of migration into advanced industrial democracies, family migration has been the subject of increasing contestation in political debate. While previous studies have noted that many OECD countries have introduced more restrictive policies on family immigration during the last few decades, we still know little about how cross-country policy configurations in this area have evolved and varied over time, or about how policies affect inflows and why they differ between countries. 13. Varför yttrandefrihet? : Om rättfärdigandet av yttrandefrihet med utgångspunkt från fem centrala argument i den demokratiska idétraditionen
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses primarily on the question ”why is freedom of speech valuable in a democratic context?” I argue that it is problematic that free-dom of speech takes for granted and that the main question therefore is absent in current political science research, in legal texts, and in public discourse. I also argue that in democratic states the focus, regarding freedom of speech, is often on its boundaries and limits rather than on its justification. LÄS MER
14. Arenas for Democratic Deliberation : Decision-Making in an Infrastructure Project in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Democracy today faces challenges in the form of declining levels of electoral participation, dwindling membership in and attachment to political parties, decreasing involvement in established non-governmental organisations and diminishing citizen trust in politicians, political institutions and systems. This study elucidates the democratic status of the Swedish formal political system through an analysis of the decision-making process related to the first power transmission link between Sweden and Poland. 15. Learning To Be(come) A Good European : A Critical Analysis of the Official European Union Discourse on European Identity and Higher Education
Sammanfattning : During the year 2007 when this thesis was completed the European Union could look back at fifty years of collaboration, which began with the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957 and which has developed from being mainly economic in character to incorporating a political as well as a social dimension at the European level. In 2007 the European Union also commemorated the twentieth anniversary of Erasmus, its higher education mobility programme. LÄS MER
