1. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors in the environment : Effects of citalopram on fish behaviour
Sammanfattning : Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of anxiolytic and anti-depressant drugs. SSRIs act on the evolutionarily ancient serotonergic system which is virtually identical throughout the vertebrate phylum. LÄS MER
2. From achiral to chiral analysis of citalopram
Sammanfattning : Within the field of depression the “monoamine hypothesis” has been the leading theory to explain the biological basis of depression. This theory proposes that the biological basis of depression is due to a deficiency in one or more of three key neurotransmitter systems, namely noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin which are thought to mediate the therapeutic actions of virtually every known antidepressant agent. 3. Antidepressant drug effects in vivo: Focus on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses in different experimental paradigms
Sammanfattning : Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic activities of the antidepressants venlafaxine (VEN) and citalopram (CIT) were investigated in the portacaval shunted (PCS) rat, a model of chronic hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and normal/control rats. The levels of VEN in serum and brain were higher in PCS rats than in controls after a single injection and chronic treatment with VEN (10 mg/kg). LÄS MER
4. Tryptophan-related Neurotransmission in the Brain: Disturbances Associated with Experimental Hepatic Encephalopathy
Sammanfattning : In the present study, L-tryptophan (TRP)-related disturbances in the brain in experimental hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were investigated. The endogenous NMDA-receptor agonist and L-TRP metabolite quinolinic acid (QUIN) has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of HE. LÄS MER
5. Genetic influence on enantiomeric drug disposition : Focus on venlafaxine and citalopram
Sammanfattning : A molecule that is not identical to its mirror image is said to be chiral. A racemic mixture, or a racemate, is one that has equal amounts of S- and R-enantiomers of a chiral molecule. Two examples of frequently prescribed racemic drugs are the antidepressants venlafaxine (VEN) and citalopram (CIT). LÄS MER
