21. Current Medical Treatment of Endocrine Pancreatic Tumors and Future Aspects
Sammanfattning : We treated 16 patients with somatostatin analogs combined with α-interferon and achieved a biochemical and/or radiological response in 56% (median duration 22 months). We consider this treatment a good alternative for patients who fail during chemotherapy or who do not want to/cannot receive cytotoxic drugs. LÄS MER
22. Systematic Modular Approaches to Reveal DNA Damage Responses in Mammalian Cells
Sammanfattning : Cancer therapy operates by inflicting damage in malignant cells. The most lethal target is the genomic DNA. As a single double strand DNA break has the potential to kill the cell, mechanisms have evolved to detect and block propagation of the damage. LÄS MER
23. Prognostic and Predictive Factors in Bladder Cancer
Sammanfattning : Bladder cancer is a potentially curable malignancy; however in regards to the state of current therapy regimens, a plateau has been reached in both the non-muscle and muscle invasive types. To obtain effective treatment, and consequently a decreased mortality, it has become imperative to test and understand aspects affecting therapy response. LÄS MER
24. Copper-transporting proteins and their interactions with platinum-based anticancer substances
Sammanfattning : Cisplatin (CisPt) is an important drug that is used against various cancers, including testicular, ovarian, lung, head, and neck cancer. However, its effects are limited by cellular resistance. LÄS MER
25. Cationic Interactions with Nucleic Acids With Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes
Sammanfattning : It is well documented that the antitumour activity of the Pt(II)-complex cisplatin, and similar anticancer active complexes, is a result of metalation of DNA, and thereby inhibition of cell proliferation. Since nucleic acids are polyanions at physiological pH, the rate of adduct formation with positively charged complex, as the hydrolyzed Pt(II) complexes studied in this work, is influenced by the ionic environment surrounding the polymer.
