  1. 1. The circadian clock in annuals and perennials : coordination of Growth with Environmental Rhythms

    Författare :Mikael Johansson; Maria E. Eriksson; Paul Devlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; circadian clock; arabidopsis; populus; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Plant biotechnology; Växtbioteknik; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Since the first signs of life on planet earth, organisms have had to adapt to the daily changes between light and dark, and high and low temperatures. This has led to the evolution of an endogenous time keeper, known as the circadian clock. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Multiple neurotransmitter inputs modulate circadian clock neurons in Drosophila

    Författare :Yasutaka Hamasaka; Dick Nässel; François Rouyer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; circadian; Drosophila; neurotransmitter; G-protein coupled receptor; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Most animals have endogenous circadian clocks, which drive daily rhythms in behavior and physiology to adapt to daily cycles of the environment. Several sets of neurons have been identified as circadian pacemakers (clocks) in the brain of Drosophila melanogaster, but the neuronal circuits and neurotransmitters signalling circadian information are poorly known. 3. 3. Nutrient-regulated skeletal muscle metabolism and circadian clock

    Författare :Laura Sardon Puig; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of obesity has tripled in the last four decades, becoming a major risk for the development of cardiometabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Obesity is associated with pathological storage of lipids in skeletal muscle, causing a major disturbance in metabolism. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Circadian Rhythms in Moth Sex Pheromone Communication

    Författare :Germund von Wowern; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physiology of invertebrates; växtparasitologi; Entomologi; plant parasitology; Entomology; Ecology; Ekologi; locomotor activity; social synchronisation; PDH; corazonin; PBAN; pheromone response; sex phermone; Lepidoptera; Ryggradslösa djurs fysiologi; calling behaviour; circadian rhythm;

    Sammanfattning : Sex pheromone communication and related physiological processes are regulated by circadian clock mechanisms in many moth species. This thesis includes studies of circadian rhythms in sexually relevant behaviours and communication in the Egyptian cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis, the turnip moth Agrotis segetum, the Indian meal moth Plodia interpunctella and the Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella. 5. 5. Studies on Natural Variation and Evolution of Photoperiodism in Plants

    Författare :Karl Holm; Ulf Lagercrantz; Martin Lascoux; Seth Jon Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :photoperiodism; circadian; flowering time; natural variation; evolution; Caspella bursa-pastoris; Physcomitrella patens; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Photoperiodism refers to the organism’s ability to detect and respond to seasonal changes in the daily duration of light and dark and thus constitutes one of the most significant and complex examples of the interaction between the organism and its environment. This thesis attempts to describe the prevalence of variation in a photoperiodic response, its adaptive value, and its putative genetic basis in a common cruciferous weed, Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae).
