  1. 1. Gastrointestinal symptoms in chronic renal failure. Prevalence and pathophysiological mechanisms

    Författare :Hans Strid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic renal failure; end-stage renal disease; gastrointestinal symptoms; overuse; proton pump inhibitors; H2-receptor antagonists; quality of life; manometry; small intestinal bacterial overgrowth; gastric emptying; Helicobacter pylori;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic renal failure (CRF) has a varying etiology and is characterised by an increasing accumulation of toxic metabolic waste products in the blood. Malnutrition is a common finding in uraemic patients and is regarded as a marker for morbidity and mortality. Many factors, including gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, lead to malnutrition in CRF. 2. 2. Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation and Oxidative Stress in Chronic Renal Failure

    Författare :Margus Annuk; Ola Samuelson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; endothelium; oxidative stress; chronic renal failure; L-arginine; diclofenac; erythropoietin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of death in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Endothelial function and oxidative stress (OS) have previously been shown to be important in the pathogenesis of CVD. In this thesis, the endothelium-dependent vasodilatation (EDV) and OS were investigated in the patients with CRF. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Malnutrition in patients with chronic renal failure

    Författare :Abdul Rashid Tony Qureshi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic renal failure; malnutrition; serum albumin; hand-grip strength; amino acids; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition is common in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and may contribute to a poor clinical outcome. However, the role of nutrition in this regard has not been clearly defined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Factors inhibiting ingestive behavior in chronic renal failure

    Författare :Abdel-Hafiz Mamoun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :rat; uremia; cholecystokinin octapeptide; nitric oxide; leptin; glucose; amino acids; anorexia; ingestive behavior; peritoneal dialysis solutions; hemodialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition and wasting occur in many patients with chronic renal failure. Reduced nutrient intake because of anorexia, nausea and vomiting, caused by uremic toxicity is an important factor. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sympathetic function in cardiac disorders.Upon cardio-renal sympathetic activity and effects of nitroglycerin in human heart failure

    Författare :Magnus Petersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :heart failure; renovascular hypertension; sympathetic nervous system; noradrenaline; mortality; renal circulation; cardiovascular physiology; baroreflex; nitroglycerin;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores pathophysiological mechanisms and prognostic implications of sympathetic activation in patients with atherosclerotic renovascular hypertension (RVH) and with chronic heart failure (CHF). Hitherto, it is unknown whether cardiac sympathetic activation is present in patients with RVH, the presence of which could relate to the increased cardiovascular mortality observed in this disorder.
