21. Metabolic and Endocrine Response in the Acute Stage of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Sammanfattning : The rupture of an aneurysm in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a dramatic event causing a severe impact on the brain and a transient or permanent ischemic condition. Several types of responses to meet the challenges of SAH have been found in the acute phase, including activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathetic nervous system, elevated levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and disturbances in cerebral and systemic metabolism. 22. Isolation and characterization of lipid-associated and neurosecretory polypeptides
Sammanfattning : Lipid-interacting proteins play important roles in all living organisms. This thesis focuses on isolation and characterization of an enzyme in the triacylglycerol biosynthesis (phosphatidic acid phosphatase, PAP), hydrophobic polypeptides in bile, and polypeptides in cerebrospinal fluid. 23. Physiological and pathophysiological regulation of ECL-cell activity
Sammanfattning : The ECL cells are endocrine/paracrine cells located in the acid-producing part of the stomach. They produce and secrete histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides in response to circulating gastrin. Mobilized histamine stimulates acid secretion from adjascent parietal cells. LÄS MER
24. Tumour Biological Factors Characterizing Metastasizing Serotonin-producing Ileocaecal Carcinoids
Sammanfattning : In this study, metastasizing serotonin-producing ileocaecal carcinoid tumours (MSPCs) were examined for biological characteristics that could be used to define clinically relevant subgroups within this patient population. Possible targets for new treatment options were also explored. LÄS MER
25. Somatostatin Receptor Expression and Biological Functions in Endocrine Pancreatic Cells
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes is resulting from the selective destruction of insulin-producing beta-cells within the pancreatic islets. Somatostatin acts as an inhibitor of hormone secretion through specific receptors (sst1-5). LÄS MER
