16. Exercise induced breathing problems in adolescents
Sammanfattning : Experiencing respiratory symptoms in conjunction with exercise is common in children and adolescents and can have a negative impact on daily life. The aim of the thesis was to estimate the prevalence of exercise-induced dyspnoea, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (E-ILO) in a general adolescent population, and to explore factors associated with EIB. 17. Eosinophil Inflammation in Allergic Disease : Clinical and experimental studies in allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis
Sammanfattning : Allergic diseases are chronic inflammatory conditions, characterised by eosinophil inflammation systemically and in target organs, where cytotoxic granule proteins are responsible for tissue injury. Allergic rhinitis is known to be a risk factor for the development of asthma, yet not all with rhinitis develop asthma. LÄS MER
18. Health-Related Quality of Life in Asthma
Sammanfattning : Health-related quality of life (HRQL) has become an important outcome in asthma, since traditional outcomes, such as respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function, might not entirely express the patient’s perception of the limitations caused by the disease. The aim of this thesis was to study HRQL in asthma and to analyse if HRQL was related to asthma onset and prognosis. LÄS MER
19. Sleep-disordered breathing in women : Associations with cardiovascular disease and the significance of sleep apnea during REM sleep
Sammanfattning : Background: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but it is unclear which elements of SDB that are most harmful to the cardiovascular system and whether the associations observed in men also apply to women.Aim: To investigate associations between different aspects of SDB and cardiovascular disease in womenMethods and results: All four papers were based on participants in “Sleep and Health in Women” (SHE), a population-based cohort study of women. 20. Nitric Oxide Exchange in Central and Peripheral Airways : Determinants in Health and Respiratory Disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a marker of eosinophilic steroid-sensitive inflammation in the airways of patients with respiratory disease. Moreover, information about the localization of inflammation in the respiratory tree is obtained by estimates of bronchial and alveolar contributions to exhaled NO. LÄS MER
