21. Interaction of Xenobiotics with the Glucocorticoid Hormone System in vitro
Sammanfattning : Persistent environmental pollutants were examined for their interaction with the glucocorticoid hormone system. The focus was placed on interference with the glucocorticoid synthesis and the glucocorticoid-signalling pathway in various in vitro test systems. LÄS MER
22. Induction of apoptosis in relation to chromatin structure and inhibition of replication by DNA damage from ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : The theme of this thesis has been chromatin organization ranging from methodological studies to involvement in apoptotic response. The aims have been: (i) to compare the information obtained by the AVTD method and comet assay concerning DNA-loop organization, (ii) to test the hypothesis that DNA-loop relaxation could be the triggering signal for induction of apoptosis in G0-lymphocytes, and (iii) to study the dose response for inhibition of the replication fork movement and pathways for the DNA repair process at the replication fork. 23. Identification and characterization of nucleoside and nucleotide kinases : pharmacological activation of anti-cancer and anti-viral nucleoside analogs
Sammanfattning : Cells require deoxyribonucleotides to synthesize DNA. Structurally modified precursors of deoxyribonucleotides, i.e. nucleoside analogs, are used as anti-viral and anti-cancer compounds. LÄS MER
24. Cellular effects after exposure to mixed beams of ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : Mixed beams of ionizing radiation in our environment originate from space, the bedrock and our own houses. Radiotherapy patients treated with boron neutron capture therapy or with high energy photons are also exposed to mixed beams of gamma radiation and neutrons. LÄS MER
25. Adenovirus species B: receptors, tropism and hematopoietic cells
Sammanfattning : At present, the human adenoviruses (Ads) comprise 51 members, which have been classified into six species (A to F). In general, adenovirus (Ad) tissue tropism or disease patterns vary according to species, although adenoviruses from different species can sometimes cause the same symptoms. LÄS MER
