  1. 1. Perinatal Risk Factors for Childhood Leukemia

    Författare :Estelle Naumburg; Eleni Petridou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Childhood leukemia; infant leukemia; leukemia epidemiology; supplementary oxygen; perinatal risk factors; perinatal infection; prenatal ultrasound; prenatal x-ray; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies described in this thesis was to assess the association between certain perinatal factors and the risk of childhood lymphatic and myeloid leukemia and infant leukemia. The five studies presented were all conducted in Sweden as population-based case-control studies. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Chemotherapy in Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia : In vitro cellular drug resistance and pharmacokinetics

    Författare :Britt-Marie Frost; Henrik Schröder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; cytotoxicity; drug resistance; pharmacokinetics; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; childhood; in vitro assay; vincristine; doxorubicin; Down`s syndrome; CHS 828.; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies described in this thesis were to investigate the pharmacokinetics of and cellular resistance to chemotherapy as causes of treatment failure in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).Leukemic cells from 370 children with newly diagnosed ALL were tested by the Fluorometric Microculture Cytotoxicity Assay to measure their resistance to each of ten standard cytotoxic drugs. 3. 3. Optimizing Chemotherapy in Childhood Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    Författare :Josefine Palle; Gudmar Lönnerholm; Britt-Marie Frost; Rolf Larsson; Henrik Schröder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; childhood; acute myeloid leukemia; drug resistance; pharmacokinetics; chromosomal abnormalities; Down syndrome; MLL-rearrangement; t 9; 11 ; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Despite major advances in our understanding of the biology of childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and the development of new cytotoxic drugs, the prognosis of long-term survival is still only 60-65 %.In the present research, we studied the pharmacokinetics of drugs used in the induction therapy of childhood AML and performed in vitro drug sensitivity testing of leukemic cells from children with AML. 4. 4. Prognostic molecular markers of childhood leukemia

    Författare :Fredrika Gauffin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; dic 9; 20 ; dried blood spots; Guthrie card; RNA; PTEN; SHP1; VEGF; VEGFR-1; VEGFR-2; immuhistochemistry; tissue micro array;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades there has been a dramatic increase in survival rates for childhood leukemia, resulting today in an overall survival close to 90 % for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This accomplishment is largely due to treatment protocols based on careful risk group assessment guiding the type and intensity of the anti-leukemic treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Minimal Residual Disease Assessment in Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Författare :Ingrid Thörn; Christer Sundström; Richard Rosenquist; Gisela Barbany; Johan Botling; Kjeld Schmiegelow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; minimal residual disease; IG TCR gene rearrangements; BCR-ABL1 fusion gene transcripts; real-time quantitative PCR; multicolor flow cytometry; Pathology; Patologi; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, response to treatment in hematological malignancies is evaluated by light microscopy of bone marrow (BM) smears, but due to more effective therapies more sensitive methods are needed. Today, detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) using immunological and molecular techniques can be 100 times more sensitive than morphology. LÄS MER
