  1. 1. Snowmobile, motorcycle and moose-car accidents : aspects on injury control

    Författare :Ulf Björnstig; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Injury; accident; prevention; snowmobile; motorcycle; moose-car collision;

    Sammanfattning : Injuries related to snowmobiles, motorcycles and moose-car collisions have increased. The aim of the present thesis was to analyse mechanisms and consequences in fatal and non-fatal accidents of these types, and to penetrate possible preventive measures.SnowmobilesThe median age of the injured was 30 and of the killed 32, males predominating. 2. 2. Safety with Mechanical Chest Compressions in CPR : Clinical studies with the LUCAS™ device

    Författare :David Smekal; Sten Rubertsson; Michael Baubin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Mechanical chest compressions; Active compression-decompression; Injury; Autopsy; LUCAS; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation are of utmost importance although not without a risk. Many injuries are described but the incidence of these is hard to define due to methodological differences. It is strenuous to perform chest compressions and therefore mechanical chest compressions have been looked upon with interest. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Heavy Vehicle Crash Safety - Improved Thoracic Injury Prediction in Frontal Crash Testing

    Författare :Kristian Holmqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite Element modelling; Pendulum test; Injury assessment; Accidents; Chest injury; Hybrid III; Heavy goods vehicle; THUMS; Crash test;

    Sammanfattning : Frontal crashes are regarded as some of the most injurious accidents for Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers. One of the leading HGV manufacturers regularly conducts frontal crash testing for occupant safety. The Hybrid III crash test dummy was developed for frontal testing in passenger cars and has become the standard in crash laboratories. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stochastic finite element simulations of real life frontal crashes : With emphasis on chest injury mechanisms in near-side oblique loading conditions

    Författare :Johan Iraeus; Mats Lindquist; Ulf Björnstig; Mats G Larsson; Joel Stitzel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EDR; Real life crashes; Oblique; Finite element; Simulation; HBM; Injury mechanism; Pulse shape; Stochastic; Rib fracture; THUMS; Generic; Statistics; biomechanics; biomekanik; skadeförebyggande; injury prevention;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. Road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause of death globally and the leading cause of death among young people aged 15-29. Of individuals killed or injured in road traffic injuries, a large group comprises occupants sustaining a thorax injury in frontal crashes. The elderly are particularly at risk, as they are more fragile. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Injuries among the elderly : study of fatal and non-fatal injury events

    Författare :Harmeet Sjögren; Ulf Björnstig; Anders Eriksson; Pat Waller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; elderly; injury; prevention; traffic; home; fall; crash; disease; bicyclist; pedestrian; cost; vehicle;

    Sammanfattning : In view of the expected increase in the proportion of elderly in the population in most western countries, we studied injuries among the elderly (>60 years) by investigating hospital-treated injuries in inpatients and outpatients, and fatal injuries.One-year Hospital Injury Data - Even though the elderly made up only 15% of the injured in one year, they accounted for 42% of the total cost of trauma medical care, showing that injuries among the elderly place a disproportional burden on the health care system.
