16. Host-Guest Interactions for Structural Analysis of Organic Molecules : Development of new Tools for Stereochemical Characterization
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the development of molecular tweezers as host-guest systems for stereochemical characterization of small organic molecules. There are two central problems to stereochemical characterization of small molecules. LÄS MER
17. Exploring Novel Catalytic Chalcogenide Antioxidants
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the synthesis and evaluation of regenerable chalcogen containing antioxidants. Variously substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]selenophene-5-ol antioxidants were evaluated in order to gain information about structure/reactivity-relationships. LÄS MER
18. Characterising Weak Interactions in Solution. : An NMR Spectroscopic Approach
Sammanfattning : Detecting and characterising weak interactions in dilute solutions is challenging. This thesis focusses on the development of a new NMR spectroscopic strategy to do so, whilst also investigates a newly proposed type of weak interaction in solution with currently available NMR techniques. 19. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools
Sammanfattning : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion. 20. Excited State Aromaticity and Antiaromaticity : Fundamental Studies and Applications
Sammanfattning : The central theme of this thesis is the ability to tune various molecular properties by controlling and utilizing aromaticity and antiaromaticity in the lowest electronically excited states. This investigation is based on qualitative theory, quantum chemical (QC) calculations and experimental work. LÄS MER
