  1. 1. Studies on T cells and cytokines in Guillain-Barré syndrome and experimental allergic neuritis

    Författare :Charlotte Rüdhmer-Dahle; Jan Ernerudh; Jan Hillert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Guillain-Barrésyndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory disease of peripheral nerves, characterised by muscle weakness. The nerves are attacked and destroyed by the immune system. The symptoms usually progress over a few weeks and many patients become severely disabled. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Regulation of immunity in Multiple Sclerosis : CD4+ T cells and the influence of natalizumab

    Författare :Måns Edström; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Charlotte Dahle; Finn Sellebjerg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease targeting the central nervous system (CNS) and the most common neurological cause of disability in young adults. In most cases, the disease course is characterised by the cycling of relapses and remissions, so called relapsing-remitting MS (RR-MS). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Interaction between biomaterials and innate immunity with clinical implications

    Författare :Shan Huang; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Charlotte Dahle; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement system; contact system; blood; biomaterials; biocompatibility; in vitro screening; iC3; dialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Today there is an increasing clinical demand and expectation of patients for biomaterials, which underscores the importance of discovering the correlations between biomaterials and biological systems, especially blood. When an artificial material makes contact with blood, the first event is a rapid adsorption of plasma protein on the material surface, on top of which the innate immune system is triggered, with potentially detrimental consequences. 4. 4. Biomarkers and Disease Activity in Multiple Sclerosis : A cohort study on patients with clinically isolated syndrome and relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Irene Håkansson; Jan Ernerudh; Charlotte Dahle; Magnus Vrethem; Jan Lycke; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on disease activity in clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and newly diagnosed relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The papers are based on data from 41 patients in a prospective longitudinal cohort study. All patients were untreated at baseline. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immunological Mechanisms and Natalizumab Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis : Studies on lymphocytes, inflammatory markers and magnetic resonance spectroscopy

    Författare :Johan Mellergård; Magnus Vrethem; Jan Ernerudh; Charlotte Dahle; Sten Fredrikson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), and a frequent cause of neurological disability among young adults. In addition to focal inflammatory demyelinated lesions, diffuse white matter pathology as well as a neurodegenerative component with accumulating axonal damage and gliosis have been demonstrated and contribute to MS disease characteristics.
