11. Quantum Resources for Efficient Excitation Energy Transfer in Natural and Artificial Pigment-Protein Molecular Aggregates
Sammanfattning : Recently, long-lasting quantum effects in a number of photosynthetic complexes, which are pigment-protein molecular aggregates (PPMAs), were experimentally verified. These findings created an interest in trying to connect the known highly efficient excitation energy transfer (EET) in these systems to the existence of quantum effects such as quantum coherence and quantum correlations. 12. Dynamic protein trafficking of the nuclear membrane and in peroxisomes
Sammanfattning : The cell nucleus is enclosed by the nuclear envelope (NE), a double lipid membrane separating the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm. Transport of macromolecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm takes places through nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) in a selective and energy dependent manner. LÄS MER
13. The Road to Maturity - Lineage Commitment in early Hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : The road to maturity – how do hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) differentiate into mature blood cells? The pathways of lineage commitment during normal hematopoiesis are of great significance in order to understand the underlying events that lead to leukemia, and to the design of proper treatments for prevention and remission of the disease. The route of hematopoiesis can be thought of as a hierarchical tree, with the rare HSCs at the top, transitioning down along the pathways as different progenitors. LÄS MER
14. Effects of sex steroids on normal human breast : studies in vivo using microdialysis and in vitro in cell culture
Sammanfattning : Prolonged exposure to sex steroids may constitute a risk factor for the development of breast cancer. The biological mechanisms involved in breast carcinogenesis are not well understood. LÄS MER
15. Studies on neurotrophins in inflammatory pulmonary diseases
Sammanfattning : Asthma, sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are inflammatory pulmonary diseases, all being characterized by tissue inflammation, tissue damage (airway remodeling) and loss of lung function. In order to increase possibilities to find new biomarkers, drug targets and better treatment options for the patients, further research on the underlying mechanisms driving the inflammation and airway remodeling in these diseases are required.
