1. Structure and Dynamics of Membrane Associated Peptides
Sammanfattning : The peptide-membrane interaction is a key element for many biological functions, from cell signaling to cell internalization. In this thesis the peptide-membrane interaction of six different peptides have been studied with respect to their structure, membrane location and dynamics with spectroscopic methods. LÄS MER
2. Taming the Griffin : Membrane interactions of peripheral and monotopic glycosyltransferases and dynamics of bacterial and plant lipids in bicelles
Sammanfattning : Biological membranes form a protective barrier around cells and cellular compartments. A broad range of biochemical processes occur in or at membranes demonstrating that they are not only of structural but also of functional importance. One important class of membrane proteins are membrane-associated glycosyltransferases. LÄS MER
3. Elis Eriksson: Ting och tecken
Sammanfattning : The title of this thesis translates as "Elis Eriksson: Objects and Signs" and concerns the life and work of the Swedish artist Elis Eriksson (1906-2006) as analysed from a semiotic point of view. The semiotic theory applied in the thesis is to be regarded as a theory of cultural semiotics or socio-semiotics, explicitly critical towards the rigid application of linguistic models so often associated with semiotic studies in the human sciences. 4. Communication as structuration : Viewing learning through the lens of communication
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about enlightening the relationship between organizational communication and learning. In doing so, I explore and build upon existing theories that address the relationship from a structuration perspective. Specifically, I turn to discursive communication theory and sociocultural learning theory. LÄS MER
5. Artworks as diagrams : Diagrammatic reasoning and the epistemic potential of art
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with establishing a bridge between matters of aesthetics and epistemology, by investigating the mechanisms through which artworks allow agents to derive knowledge through the former’s manipulation. It is proposed that, in order to understand the epistemic potential of artworks, we need to approach them as diagrams, in the sense developed by Charles Peirce. LÄS MER
