  1. 1. ICU prognostication: Time to re-evaluate? Register-based studies on improving prognostication for patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU)

    Författare :Peder Andersson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive Care; Critical Care; Mortality; Cerebral Performance Category; Cardiac arrest; Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest; Sepsis; Lactate; Troponin; Neuron-specific enolase; Neurofilament light; Age; Elderly; Prognostication; Prediction; Scoring system; Neural net; Artificial neural network; Deep learning; Artificial intelligence;

    Sammanfattning : Background: ICU prognostication is difficult because of patients’ prior comorbidities and their varied reasons for admission. The model used for ICU prognostication in Sweden is the Simplified Acute Physiology Score 3 (SAPS 3), which uses information gathered within one hour of ICU admission to predict 30-day mortality. 3. 3. Neurocognitive function following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

    Författare :Erik Blennow Nordström; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy; heart arrest; cognitive impairment; outcome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The brain is susceptible to hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in conjuction with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Cognitive impairments are documented in about half of all OHCA survivors, however with a pronounced heterogeneity in measurements and findings. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The impact of diabetes on cognitive aging and dementia

    Författare :Anna Marseglia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :prediabetes;

    Sammanfattning : The impact of prediabetes and diabetes on different stages of cognitive function during aging remains unclear. This thesis aimed to investigate the impact of prediabetes and of diabetes on cognitive aging—from cognitive deficits, through cognitive decline, to dementia—, explore underlying cerebral mechanisms and identify factors that may protect older adults with diabetes from dementia. 5. 5. Prediction of neurological outcome after cardiac arrest and targeted temperature management

    Författare :Marion Moseby-Knappe; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurological prognostication; brain injury; cardiac arrest; biomarkers; outcome; CT; guideline;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Prediction of neurological outcome in unconscious patients after cardiac arrest (CA) forms the basis for decisions on further level-of-care based on results from clinical neurological examinations, neuroimaging (CT or MRI), neurophysiology (EEG or SSEP) and blood biomarkers of brain injury. Methods must be highly specific to avoid misclassifying patients with possibilities of a good outcome. LÄS MER
