21. Cell-penetrating peptides in protein mimicry and oligonucleotide delivery : Applications and mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The plasma membrane functions as a barrier, restricting entry of hydrophilic pharmaceutical agents. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are capable of transporting bioactive cargos into the cell and have consequently been extensively investigated for their mechanism of entry and capability to deliver various cargos spanning from peptides to plasmids. 22. Rational modifications of cell-penetrating peptides for drug delivery : Applications in tumor targeting and oligonucleotide delivery
Sammanfattning : High molecular weight biomolecules are becoming important in the development of new therapeutics. However, their size and nature creates a major limitation for their application – poor penetration through biological membranes. LÄS MER
23. Cell-penetrating peptides; chemical modification, mechanism of uptake and formulation development
Sammanfattning : Gene therapy holds the promise of revolutionizing the way we treat diseases. By using recombinant DNA and oligonucleotides (ONs), gene functions can be restored, altered or silenced according to the therapeutic need. LÄS MER
24. Biophysical studies of cell-penetrating peptides and of the RNR inhibitor Sml1
Sammanfattning : Several short peptides, so called cell-penetrating peptides, have the capability to transport large hydrophilic cargos through the cell membrane. The objective is to use these peptides as drug carriers and thereby enhance the uptake of drugs into cells.Three different cell-penetrating peptides are characterized in this thesis. LÄS MER
25. Cell-penetrating peptides in model membrane systems : Interaction, structure induction and membrane effects
Sammanfattning : Despite continuing advances in the development of macromolecules, including peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides, for therapeutic purposes, the successful application of these hydrophilic molecules has so far been hampered by their inability to efficiently traverse the plasma membrane. The discovery of a class of peptides (cell-penetrating peptides, CPPs) with the ability to mediate the non-invasive and efficient import of a whole host of cargoes, both in vitro and in vivo, has provided a new means by which the problem associated with cellular delivery can be circumvented.
