  1. 1. Stereotyped B Cell Receptors in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : Implications for Antigen Selection in Leukemogenesis

    Författare :Fiona Murray; Richard Rosenquist Brandell; Kostas Stamatopoulos; Gunilla Enblad; Gerard Tobin; Manlio Ferrarini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; immunoglobulin genes; somatic hypermutation; stereotyped B cell receptors; antigen selection; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biased immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene usage and distinctive B-cell receptor (BCR) features have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which may reflect clonal selection by antigens during disease development. Furthermore, the IGHV gene mutation status distinguishes two clinical entities of CLL, where patients with unmutated IGHV genes have an inferior prognosis compared to those with mutated IGHV genes. 2. 2. Hematopoiesis: Functional Insights by Cell Fate Conversion

    Författare :Martin Wahlestedt; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Blood cell formation, or hematopoiesis, is maintained by rare hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) residing in the bone marrow (BM). HSCs may self-renew (the process whereby HSCs replicate to produce new HSCs) to preserve their own numbers, as well as initiate a highly coordinated hierarchical differentiation process that results in the production of mature effector blood cells. 3. 3. Molecular Mechanisms in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Aging

    Författare :Gudmundur Norddahl; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The blood is composed of many different cell types that through tightly regulated mechanisms are derived from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). In addition, HSCs are able to undergo self-renewing divisions whereby new HSCs are produced. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cleavage Specificity of Mast Cell Chymases

    Författare :Mattias K. Andersson; Lars Hellman; Gunnar Pejler; Per Venge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Immunology; Mast cell; Serine protease; Chymase; Cleavage specificity; Phage display; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells (MC) are potent inflammatory cells that are known primarily for their prominent role in IgE mediated allergies. However, they also provide beneficial functions to the host, e.g. in bacterial and parasitic defence. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The effects of growth hormone on opioid-induced toxicity in vitro

    Författare :Erik Nylander; Mathias Hallberg; Alexis Bailey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; opioids; methadone; morphine; ketobemidone; fentanyl; oxycodone; hydromorphone; insulin-like growth factor; cell viability; NG108-15; SH-SY5Y; hippocampus; cortex; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : There is an ongoing opioid crisis in the United States that is portrayed by a large number of opioid-related deaths. Many of these cases involve commonly used prescription opioids, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, and methadone. This is concerning and highlights the problems associated with long-term opioid treatment. LÄS MER
