11. From dopamine nerve fiber formation to astrocytes
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra in the midbrain. The causes of the disease are still unknown. LÄS MER
12. Heparan Sulfate in the Amyloidosis and Inflammation of Alzheimer’s Disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, with extensive evidence implicating the misfolding, aggregation and deposition of the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide as central to the pathogenesis. Heparan sulfate (HS) is an interactive glycosaminoglycan, attached to core proteins as HS proteoglycans (HSPGs). LÄS MER
13. Single Cell Studies of Glycolytic Oscillations Using Microfluidics and Optical Tweezers
Sammanfattning : The complex set of reactions in metabolism has been extensively studied in populations with millions of cells, but much information can still be gained by studying the heterogeneous metabolic behaviour in individual cells. The first part of energy metabolism is called glycolysis and is very similar in mammalian cells, such as human cells, and in yeast cells. LÄS MER
14. Galectin Inhibitors – Molecular Tools in Biomedical Research and Clinical Implications
Sammanfattning : Galectins are β-galactoside-binding lectins, which are present in both the intracellular and extracellular environments of cells. During the last two decades, galectins have gained increasing interest as drug targets in various diseases, such as chronic inflammation (fibrosis) and cancer, in which galectins have been shown to play important, and sometimes rate-limiting, roles. 15. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes
Sammanfattning : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. LÄS MER
