1. Perilous Silences and Counterproductive Narratives Pertaining to HIV/AIDS in the Ugandan, Lesotho and Namibian Press
Sammanfattning : Research on Western mainstream media’s framing of HIV/AIDS in the 1980’s, showed that media narratives influenced audiences’ understanding of the epidemic, as well as society’s responses. Subsequently, by analyzing a society’s mass media and its framing of HIV/AIDS, it is possible to explore what understandings are given preferential treatment in that society, as well as explore what social change those narratives indirectly or directly facilitate. 2. Early identification of motor problems in very preterm infants : An evaluation of the Structured Observation of Motor Performance in Infants
Sammanfattning : Infants born very preterm are at risk of adverse neurodevelopment. It is important to identify motor problems early to initiate interventions aiming at ameliorating outcomes. Evaluating motor development in high-risk infants is a complex task. There is a need for assessment methods for early identification of abnormal motor performance. LÄS MER
3. Search for Type 2 Diabetes Susceptibility Genes Using Multiple Approaches
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from pancreatic dysfunction and insulin resistance. It is a common disorder with a complex pattern of inheritance, likely to reflect the influence of multiple genetic and environmental factors on the diabetes risk. LÄS MER
4. Post-translational modifications in DNA base excision repair : The roles of CK2 and PARP-1
Sammanfattning : Base lesions and DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) are very common types of DNA damage. The base excision repair (BER) and single-strand break repair (SSBR) machineries both require a succession of enzymatic events in order to remove these types of endogenous lesions and to restore the DNA. 5. The telomere binding proteins in yeast and their role in telomere maintenance
Sammanfattning : Telomeres are the end-structures of linear chromosome which are crucial for maintaining genome integrity. The telomeres prevent the DNA-repair machinery from recognizing the chromosome ends as double-strand breaks and from end-to-end fusions. LÄS MER
