  1. 1. Autoimmune and innate inflammation in the nervous system : neurotrophin production and impact on neuronal survival

    Författare :Cecilia Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :neurodegeneration; autoimmunity; neurotrophin; motoneuron; cytokine; axotomy;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence of a continuous immune surveillance in the central nervous system (CNS) is a fairly recent finding. For long the CNS was considered an immune privileged organ, with the blood-brain barrier constituting an effective barrier against blood-derived molecules and cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Use of neural progenitor cell lines and astrocytes for transplantation and gene transfer to the CNS

    Författare :Cecilia Lundberg; CNS Genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fimbria-fornix lesion; NGF; tyrosine hydroxylase; Parkinson s disease; integration; differentiation; temperature-sensitive; grafting; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intracerebral neuronal transplantation have been shown to ameliorate symptoms of brain dysfunction in both animals models and Parkinson's disease, although problems still remain. The newly introduced technique of ex vivo gene transfer could serve as an alternative approach, possible avoiding some of the draw-backs of the embryonal tissue used in neuronal grafting. LÄS MER

  3. 3. CD47–SIRPα : an interaction of importance for bone cell differentiation

    Författare :Cecilia Koskinen; Pernilla Lundberg; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Riku Kiviranta; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD47; SIRPalpha; osteoblast; osteoclast; SHP-2; Akt2; cell research; cellforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously remodeled by bone-forming osteoblasts and bone-resorbing osteoclasts, in processes tightly regulated by hormones, cytokines and growth factors. CD47, a ubiquitously expressed protein, and one of its ligands, signal-regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα), are two cell-surface proteins belonging to the immunoglobulin (Ig)-superfamily. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Microarray Based Gene Expression Analysis in Cancer Research

    Författare :Cecilia Laurell; Joakim Lundberg; Peter Nilsson; Karin Dahlman-Wright; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenocortical tumour; apoptosis; cancer; classification; gene expression; microarray; p53; RNA amplification; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biotechnological inventions during the 20th century have resulted in a wide range of approaches for explorations in the functional genomics field. Microarray technology is one of the recent advances which have provided us with snapshots of which genes are expressed in cells of various tissues and diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. TARP Promoter-Based Prostate Cancer Gene Therapy : From Development to Application

    Författare :Wing-Shing Cheng; Magnus Essand; Thomas H. Tötterman; Cecilia Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Genetic engineering; TARP; PPT; TSTA; promoter; gene regulation; prostate specificity; hormone- independent; adenovirus; prostate cancer; gene therapy; conditionally replicating adenovirus; Genteknik; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is one leading cause of cancer-related death among men in Western countries. The standard therapies for localized prostate cancer include radical prostatectomy and radiation therapy. Such measures are relatively effective in the short term, but many patients ultimately relapse. LÄS MER
