1. A Systems Tool for Prescriptive Policy Analysis : Labelled Causal Mapping Method for Policy-oriented Modelling, Simulation and Decision analysis
Sammanfattning : The elicitation and processing of relevant information is the core of any policy decision-making process. Modelling is about making sense of the available information. Models are able to incorporate the contextual influences on policy making (e.g. LÄS MER
2. Mapping and fine-mapping of genetic factors affecting bovine milk composition
Sammanfattning : Bovine milk is an important source of nutrients in Western diets. Unraveling the genetic background of bovine milk composition by finding genes associated with milk-fat composition and non-coagulation of milk were the main goals of this thesis. In Chapter 1, a brief description of phenotypes and genotypes used throughout the thesis is given. LÄS MER
3. Gene mapping of reproduction traits in dairy cattle
Sammanfattning : In this thesis my aims were to map genes affecting reproduction in cattle and to explore the correlated effect of these genes on yield traits. This knowledge is expected to provide novel insights into the biological processes underlying reproduction traits and to identify individual causal polymorphisms or genetic markers for practical application in marker-assisted and genomic selection strategies. 4. 3D Occlusion Management and Causality Visualization
Sammanfattning : This thesis is split into two parts: one part dealing with the management of occlusion in 3D environments, the other with the visualization of causal relations. Both of these parts fall within the general framework of visualization---the graphical representation of data (abstract or concrete) with the purpose of amplifying cognition---but they do so in different ways. 5. Violent natural resource conflicts : From definitions to prevention
Sammanfattning : General scientific consensus is growing that natural resources play an important role in violent conflicts. Both scarcity and abundance contribute to violent conflict, depending on the socio-economic and political conditions at play. LÄS MER
