  1. 1. Fatigue Assessment of Cast Components : Influence of Cast Defects

    Författare :Anders Björkblad; Jack Samuelsson; Gary Marquis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cast nodular iron; fatigue; design rules; fracture mechanics; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning :  This thesis is on the fatigue assessment of cast components with special attention to defects. The primary material in view is nodular cast iron, but also cast steel is considered. However, the fatigue behaviour is in principle valid for general use on other cast metals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. High Temperature Corrosion of Cast Irons and Steels

    Författare :Frédéric Tholence; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high temperature corrosion; cast steel; austenitic stainless steel; SiMo; cast iron; oxidation; exhaust gases; Ni-resist; LCF; ferritic stainless steel;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades, tougher competition and stiffer government policies have forced the automotive industry into a race for safer, cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles at low cost. As a consequence, exhaust systems should resist to increased working temperatures. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Oxidation and corrosion fatigue aspects of cast exhaust manifolds

    Författare :Madeleine Ekström; Stefan Jonsson; Ulf Olofsson; Babette Tonn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cast exhaust manifolds; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature low-cycle fatigue; high-temperature corrosion fatigue; ductile cast irons; cast stainless steel; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Emission regulations for heavy-duty diesel engines are becoming increasingly restrictive to limit the environmental impacts of exhaust gases and particles. Increasing the specific power output of diesel engines would improve fuel efficiency and greatly reduce emissions, but these changes could lead to increased exhaust gas temperature, increasing demands on the exhaust manifold material. 4. 4. Thermal Cycling, Creep- and Tensile Testing of Cast Exhaust Materials at Elevated Temperatures

    Författare :Christian Öberg; Stefan Jonsson; Henrik Östling; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :creep; constant-load; thermal cycling; tensile test; cast materials; cast iron; exhaust materials.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : An exhaust manifold of a truck engine is subjected to tough conditions. As the truck is started, operated and shut down, it becomes subjected to thermal cycling up to around 800°C. At such high temperatures, corrosion, fatigue and creep are active degradation mechanisms. 5. 5. Varestraint Weldability Testing of Cast Superalloys

    Författare :Sukhdeep Singh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Varestraint; Hot Cracking; Welding; Alloy 718; Cast Superalloys; ATI® 718 PlusTM; HIP;

    Sammanfattning : Precipitation hardened Ni- and Ni-Fe- based superalloys, used in hot structural components for aero engines, are subjected to hot cracking phenomena during manufacturing and specifically in welding. This type of cracking involves metallurgical reactions from the liquid phase in concomitance to weld restraints. LÄS MER
