  1. 1. Aspects of locomotor evolution in the Carnivora (Mammalia)

    Författare :Ki Andersson; Lars E. Holmer; Lars Werdelin; Margaret E. Lewis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Morphology; Mammalia; Carnivora; Locomotion; Cranial; Elbow joint; Morphology; Morphometrics; Landmarks; Multivariate statistics; Allometry; Ecomorphology; Dental; Body size; Morfologi; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the shape of the distal humerus trochlea is analysed using landmark-based morphometrics and multivariate methods, with the aim of exploring locomotor evolution in carnivorans. Elbow joint morphology is used together with body size and craniodental morphology to characterize past and present carnivorans. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aspects of carnivoran evolution in Africa

    Författare :Reihaneh Dehghani; Lars Werdelin; Philippe Gaubert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carnivora; Evolution; Africa; Viverridae; Herpestidae; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Systematic Zoology; systematisk zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the evolution of African small carnivorans, with emphasis on East African Viverridae and Herpestidae (Carnivora, Mammalia). Viverridae and Herpestidae are two Old World feliform (belonging to the cat branch) carnivoran families with a confusing, and sometimes even misleading, taxonomic and systematic history, in addition to a scarce fossil record. 3. 3. Cervicothalamic tract termination and its cortical connections: anatomical studies in cats and ferrets

    Författare :Mengliang Zhang; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; Carnivora; Cytoarchitecture; Immunocytochemistry; Compartmentation; Retrograde transport; Anterograde transport; Somatosensory cortex; Thalamus; Spinal cord; Lateral cervical nucleus; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The termination and cortical connections of the cervicothalamic tract (CTT) were studied by neuroanatomical tract tracing techniques in cats and ferrets. After injections of wheat germ agglutinin-horseradish peroxidase conjugate or biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) into the cat lateral cervical nucleus (LCN), the most abundant CTT termination is present in the ventral posterior lateral nucleus (VPL). 4. 4. Skuggspel. Mellan bildkritik och ikonestetik i Lars Gyllenstens författarskap : A play of shadows. Image Critique and Icon Aesthetics in the works of Lars Gyllensten

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation addresses, on the one hand, Lars Gyllensten’s fundamentally critical relationship to imagery and image interpretation. Throughout his literary career, in his fiction as well as in his polemic criticism in the press, Gyllensten has performed the role of iconoclast. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sociality in a solitary carnivore, the wolverine

    Författare :Fredrik Dalerum; Anders Angerbjörn; Kyran Kunkel; Stanley Boutin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sociality; carnivore; behaviour; ecology; spatial organisation; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The social organization of animal societies has important implications for several fields of biology, from managing wild populations to developing new ecological and evolutionary theory. Although much attention has been given to the formation and maintenance of societies of group living individuals, less is known about how societies of solitary individuals have been shaped and maintained.
