  1. 6. Assessment of Left Ventricular Dysfunction and Remodelling by Determination of Atrioventricular Plane Displacement and Simplified Echocardiography

    Författare :Ronnie Willenheimer; Kardiologiska klinikens forskargrupp; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; simplified echocardiography; atrioventricular plane displacement; diagnosis; screening; heart failure; prognostication; latent heart failure; left ventricular dysfunction; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : Heart failure is a common disease characterised by poor prognosis and frequent hospitalisations, constituting a major economic burden to society. Mortality and morbidity can be reduced by optimal treatment, requiring objective evaluation of cardiac function and anatomy. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Cellular electrophysiological modulation in chronic atrial fibrillation - Studies with magnesium and GIK solution

    Författare :Max Ingemansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Action potential duration; Atrial cycle length; Atrial remodelling; Autonomic nervous system; AV-nodal; Conduction velocity; GIK; Magnesium; Resting membrane potential.; Refractoriness; Atrial fibrillation; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : Although chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in man, the mechanisms involved in its progressive course are still not fully understood. Recent studies have verified an electrical remodelling of the atrial myocardium that may be responsible for the electrophysiological disturbances known to exist in the fibrillating atria. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Complex disease genetics : Utilising targeted sequencing and homogeneous ancestry

    Författare :Argyri Mathioudaki; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Panagiotis Deloukas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; breast cancer; targeted sequencing; Sweden; genetics; population stratification.; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The complex disease investigations presented in this thesis aimed to provide new information regarding underlying genetics by using targeted sequencing and ethnically homogeneous cohorts. This work moved past current methodologies and addressed data stratification issues, that might have been hindering new findings. 4. 9. Development of cardiovascular disease risk in middle-aged men. The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Study in Southern Sweden, CRISS

    Författare :Karin Henriksson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Population Study; Overweight; S-Cholesterol; Middle-aged men; Hypertension; Ethnicity; Epidemiology; Education; Cardiovascular disease; Body height; BMI; Alcohol; Blood pressure; Unemployment;

    Sammanfattning : The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Study in Southern Sweden, CRISS, was initiated to explore if men at increased risk at developing CVD risk factors can be identified already before age 40. Starting in 1990 two birth cohorts of men residing in Helsingborg, Sweden, were surveyed at age 37 (n=991, participation rate 68%), at age 40 (n=770) and age 43 (n=702), respectively. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Diabetes Mellitus and Cardiovascular Risk : epidemiology, etiology and intervention

    Författare :Aslak Rautio; Kurt Boman; Anna Norhammar; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetes; Cardiovascular risk; epidemiology; myocardial infarction; stroke; fibrinolysis; insulin treatment; Diabetes; kardiovaskulär risk; epidemilogi; hjärtinfarkt; stroke; fibrinolys; insulinbehandling; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The Framingham Study from 1988 showed a heavy impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the risk and prognosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Several other studies have confirmed that DM is an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) and that patients with DM have a poor prognosis. LÄS MER
