  1. 16. Fat contamination of pericardial suction blood in cardiac surgery : clinical and experimental studies in perspectives of transfusion logistics

    Författare :Micael Appelblad; Gunnar Engström; Krister Lindmark; Anders Jeppsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; blood transfusion; cardiopulmonary bypass; pericardial suction blood; fat contamination; lipid microemboli; density separation; surface adsorption; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: During cardiac surgery aided by cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) the autotransfusion of pericardial suction blood (PSB) is regarded mandatory to limit allogeneic blood exposure. PSB is however proposed as a source of lipid microemboli and to contribute to brain damage. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Delirium after cardiac surgery : risk factors, assessment methods and costs

    Författare :Nina Smulter; Karl Gunnar Engström; Birgitta Olofsson; Micael Appelblad; Staffan Svenmarker; Henrik Bjursten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; Cardiopulmonary bypass; Consequences; Delirium; Detection; Documentation; Economical aspect; Hospitalisation; Risk factors; Screening scales; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac surgery is considered safe, but postoperative delirium (POD) remains frequently reported. Delirium is characterised by fluctuations in consciousness and cognition, and can be subdivided into disturbed psychomotoric activity (hyperactive and hypoactive) and psychiatric symptom profiles (psychotic and emotional). 3. 18. Protamine, Platelet Function and Coagulation in Cardiac Surgery

    Författare :Mattias Törnudd; Sören Berg; John-Peder Escobar Kvitting; Sofia Ramström; Joakim Alfredsson; Ulf Schött; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiopulmonary bypass; Protamine; Platelet function; Coagulation;

    Sammanfattning : Bleeding is a serious and common complication in cardiac surgery. Complicated surgery together with alterations in hemostatic conditions from the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), presents challenges in how to preserve hemostasis in the patient.   CPB is thought to affect platelet function and coagulation in many ways. 4. 19. Consequences of Arterial Switch Operation in Children Born with Transposition of the Great Arteries

    Författare :Cecilia Falkenberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transpositon of the great arteries; arterial switch operation; autonomous nerves system; norepinephrine; heart rate variability; cardiopulmonary bypass; piglets;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: The introduction of the arterial switch operation (ASO) made it the procedure of choice for surgical correction of transposition of the great arteries. A majority of the sympathetic nerves innervate the heart alongside the great vessels; these are therefore likely to be damaged during the surgical procedure; imposing new challenges and questions that need to be addressed. Sammanfattning : Factors Affecting Coronary Flow in Children Elhadi H. Aburawi, MD, MSc, FRCPI, FRCPCH Division of Paediatric Cardiology, Department of Paediatrics, Lund University, Sweden Abstract Background: A number of inborn and exogenous factors influence the flow and function of the coronary arteries with possible consequences on the cardiovascular risk.
