16. Clinical and immunohistochemical studies of small bowel carcinoid tumours
Sammanfattning : Small bowel carcinoid tumours arising from enterochromaffin cells in the jejunum and ileum are neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) characterized by secretion of serotonin, tachykinins and other bioactive substances. These substances may lead to the typical carcinoid syndrome as well as pronounced fibrosis locally and in the heart. LÄS MER
17. Interferon-alpha signaling and cell cycle regulation in neuroendocrine tumors of the digestive system
Sammanfattning : The prognosis for untreated carcinoid patients is poor and their quality of life is low. IFN-α treatment has shown a response rate of 50-80%, however, the antitumor mechanism has not been elucidated. LÄS MER
18. Cancer Patients’ Satisfaction with Doctors’ Care : Consequences and Contributing Conditions
Sammanfattning : The main aims were to: explore whether there is a relation between doctors’ ability to identify patients’ worry and wish for information and self-efficacy with regard to communicating with patients about difficult matters; describe which cues doctors consider when estimating patients’ worry and wish for information, and investigate whether there is a relation between patients’ satisfaction with doctors’ care and patients’ psychosocial function. Eleven doctors and 69 patients (of which 36 patients participated in the longitudinal study) with carcinoid tumours participated. LÄS MER
19. Genetic studies of endocrine abdominal tumors
Sammanfattning : Pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) occur sporadically or in the familial multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome, whereas midgut carcinoids are nonfamilial, malignant endocrine tumors of the intestine. For these tumor entities morphological criteria are of limited use for prognostic prediction and selection of treatment. LÄS MER
20. Lutetium-177-octreotate treatment of small intestine neuroendocrine tumors - Radiation biology as basis for optimization
Sammanfattning : Patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) often have metastatic spread at the time of diagnosis. NETs frequently express somatostatin receptors (SSTR) that can be targeted by radiolabeled somatostatin analogs (e.g. 177Lu-octreotate). LÄS MER
