  1. 16. Ecosystems in the Anthropocene: the role of cropland management for carbon and nitrogen cycle processes

    Författare :Stefan Olin; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon; Nitrogen; DVM; Ecosystem modelling; Cropland; Management; Yields;

    Sammanfattning : Through deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems to croplands and pastures, have humans released vast amounts of carbon (C) dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Roughly one third of the cumulative anthropogenic emissions until today stem from these practices, the remainder being mostly due to fossil fuel combustion. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Life-Cycle Energy and Carbon Implications of Wood-Based Products and Construction

    Författare :Roger Sathre; Leif Gustavsson; Birger Solberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; forest products; climate change mitigation; carbon balance; energy; life cycle; wood; land use; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Forests can be an important element of an overall strategy to limit the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) that contributes to climate change. As an integral part of the global carbon cycle, forests remove CO2 from the atmosphere as they grow, and accumulate carbon in tree biomass. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Modeling the Potential for Carbon Removal in Agriculture: Integrating Farmer Perspectives

    Författare :Andreas Rehn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Crop Rotation; Climate Change Mitigation; Carbon Dioxide Removal CDR Agricultural Practices; Stakeholder participation; Perennial Ley Crops; Biochar; Soil Organic Carbon SOC ; Landscape Modeling;

    Sammanfattning : The overarching aim of this thesis is to provide insights into the dynamic processes governing SOC stocks and to identify viable paths for agricultural systems to contribute to climate change mitigation. By integrating current scientific knowledge of carbon sequestration in agriculture with feasible agricultural applications, this work proposes local realistic strategies for enhancing soil organic carbon (SOC) and presents a quantitative assessment of their potential for CO2 removal. 4. 19. Low Secondary Electron Yield Carbon Coatings for Electron Cloud Mitigation in Modern Particle Accelerators

    Författare :Christina Yin Vallgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raman spectroscopy; NRA; amorphous carbon; secondary electron yield; LIU; X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; SEY; AFM; electron cloud; SPS dipole magnet;

    Sammanfattning : In order to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) performance to be oriented towards higher energies and higher intensities in the future, a series of improvementsof the existing LHC injectors is planned to take place over the next few years. Electron cloud effects are expected to be enhanced and play a central role in limiting theperformance of the machines of the CERN complex. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Carbon Balance Implications of Forest Biomass Production Potential

    Författare :Bishnu Chandra Poudel; Inga Carlman; Johan Bergh; Thomas Lundmark; Roger Sathre; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; forest management; silviculture; clear-cut forestry; continuous-cover forestry; substitution; total carbon; climate benefit; climate change; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Forests in boreal and temperate forest-ecosystems have importance for carbonbalance since they sequester large amount of atmospheric carbon by uptake ofcarbon-dioxide during photosynthesis, and transfer and store carbon in the forestecosystem. Forest material can be used for bio-fuel purposes and substitute fossilfuels, and supply wood products, which can replace carbon-and-energy-intensivematerials. LÄS MER
