  1. 26. Turbulence in the sea ice impacted Southern Ocean and its implications for primary production and carbon export

    Författare :Isabelle Giddy; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Ocean; sea ice; submesoscale; diapycnal mixing; heat fluxes; primary production; carbon export; gliders.;

    Sammanfattning : The sea ice impacted Southern Ocean, south of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, is one of the most important regions on earth for the cycling of carbon and distribution of heat and freshwater around the globe. Here, along-isopycnal upwelling of warm, carbon-rich circumpolar deep water coincides with the annual growth and melt of Antarctic sea ice that represents one of the worlds largest surface water transformations. 2. 27. Properties and analysis of dioxin-like compounds in marine samples from Sweden

    Författare :Kjell Lundgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; planar dioxin-like compound; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated biphenyl; polychlorinated naphthalene; alkylated polychlorinated dibenzofuran; high-performance liquid chromatography; PX-21 carbon column; biomagnification factor; biota to sediment accumulation factor; fluxes; relative retention time; mass spectrometry; relative response factor; ultra-violet spectroscopy; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been assigned toxic equivalency factors (TEFs). These compounds are today routinely analysed with sophisticated analytical techniques. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Carbon Dynamics in Northern Marginal Seas

    Författare :Sofia Hjalmarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissolved inorganic carbon; total alkalinity; continental shelf pump; marginal seas; Baltic Sea; Skagerrak; Laptev Sea; East Siberian Sea; Chukchi Sea;

    Sammanfattning : The marginal seas have, despite their relatively small area, an important role in the global carbon cycle. They are largely influenced by carbon and nutrient fluxes from land and a large part of the biological production occurs in the marginal seas. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Sediment remediation using activated carbon: amending knowledge gaps

    Författare :Robert A. Rämö; Jonas S. Gunnarsson; Agnes M. L. Karlson; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Barbara Beckingham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sediment contamination; sediment remediation; sorbent amendment; activated carbon; benthic community; macroinvertebrates; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many coastal sediments have accumulated large quantities of contaminants from past anthropogenic activities and now act as a secondary emission source of legacy pollutants to coastal ecosystems. New sediment remediation strategies are needed to address widespread sediment pollution. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Processes controlling carbon fluxes in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system

    Författare :David Hadden; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere have a direct impact on global warming and climate change. The ability of ecosystems to sequester CO2 is therefore of great importance. The Boreal forest contains one of the world’s largest carbon stocks after having acted as a net sink of CO2 for thousands of years. LÄS MER
