Sammanfattning : An experimental investigation of the binary system Co-Cr and the ternary system C-Co-Cr has been carried out in the present thesis. The experimental strategy adopted for the binary system was to measure the thermodynamic activities of Cr, the molar heat capacity as function of time, the phase transformation temperatures with corresponding enthalpies, the Curie transition temperature as well as melting temperatures with corresponding enthalpies. Sammanfattning : In this research, several improvements to the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) were analysed. The EU ETS is a market for emission allowances and the European Union's main instrument for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (of which CO2 is the main component). LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : The ocean carbon cycle plays a fundamental role in the Earth’s climate system, on decadal to multi-millennial timescales. Of the carbon held in the ocean, the atmosphere, and the terrestrial biosphere combined, more than 90% resides in the ocean. Carbon enters the surface ocean through air-sea gas exchange and from terrestrial sources. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Diet has been hypothesized to play a major role in the etiology of gastrointestinal cancer, but the specific dietary factors involved remain unclear. The aims of this thesis were: to examine the associations of dietary magnesium and vitamin B6 intakes with risk of colorectal cancer in the Swedish Mammography Cohort (SMC); to evaluate the relation between folate intake and risk of pancreatic cancer in the SMC and the Cohort of Swedish Men (COSM); to use metaanalysis to summarize the evidence from published studies of the associations of folate intake and polymorphisms in the gene encoding 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR C677T and A1298C), a central enzyme in one-carbon metabolism, with risk of esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer; and to perform a meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies of the relationship between processed meat consumption and risk of gastric cancer. Sammanfattning : Inland waters (i.e. rivers, streams, lakes, ponds) emit carbon (C) into the atmosphere. The magnitude of global inland water C emission has been estimated to equal the global ocean C sink, thus making inland waters an important component of the global C cycle. LÄS MER
