  1. 1. Transvascular fluid exchange with application to the brain. An experimental study in cat skeletal muscle and brain

    Författare :Lis Kongstad; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; intensivvård; capillary filtration coefficient; Capillary permeability; reflection coefficient; brain edema; dural puncture; Anaesthesiology; Anestesiologi; intensive care; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This study evaluated transcapillary fluid exchange in the cat brain and in a cat skeletal muscle enclosed in a plethysmograph. A method for determination of capillary permeability (capillary filtration coefficient and reflection coefficient) and effects of transcapillary hydrostatic pressure changes were studied We found that capillary fluid permeability in a tissue can be determined by the capillary filtration coefficient, even when arterial pressure and vascular tone are changed. 2. 2. Transvascular exchange and organ perfusion with reference to colloid and hypertonic solutions, and to endotoxaemia

    Författare :Staffan Holbeck; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sepsis; mannitol; microdialysis; intestine; hypertonic saline; gut; hydroxyethyl starch; gelatin; endotoxin; fluid therapy; dextran; albumin; capillary filtration coefficient; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; urea; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; SIRS; reflection coefficient;

    Sammanfattning : Changes in vascular permeability can immensely change plasma volume and affect the degree of oedema in the body. In diseases with an increased vascular permeability, adequate fluid therapy is of considerable importance to prevent hypovolaemia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vascular effects of prostacyclin in cat skeletal muscle and in the traumatised rat brain

    Författare :Peter Bentzer; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reflection coefficient; cerebral blood flow; hydraulic conductivity; oedema; capilary filtration coefficient; endothelin-1; ATP-dependent potassium channels; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Disturbances in microvascular function may be important for tissue damage in many disease states. Prostacyclin, a substance produced by endothelial cells, is important for the maintenance of normal vascular homeostasis and is a potential drug for treatment of microvascular dysfunction, but indications and optimal dosage remains to be established. 4. 4. Physiological and clinical aspects of change in microvascular permeability

    Författare :Johan Persson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dextran; exercise; fluid therapy; gelatin; hydroxyethyl starch; Anaesthesiology; intensivvård; intensive care; Anestesiologi; crystalloids; colloids; Albumin; Capillary filtration coefficient;

    Sammanfattning : Microvascular permeability is important for exchange of fluids and proteins in health and in disease. Permeability increases in critical illness, such as during sepsis/SIRS and after trauma, and may be affected by drugs. Increased permeability causes oedema and hypovolaemia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiovascular responses to hypovolemic circulatory stress in women : With special reference to venous compliance and capacitance

    Författare :Marcus Lindenberger; Toste Länne; Peter Friberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute haemorrhage is a leading cause of death in trauma. Young women (YW) seem more susceptible to hypovolemic circulatory stress than young men (YM), but the underlying mechanisms are not clear. LÄS MER
