  1. 1. Calpain-Mediated Apoptosis in Motor Neurons of Adult Mouse Spinal Cord Slices

    Författare :HamidReza Momeni; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Calpain; Djurfysiologi; Animal physiology; Spinal cord; Organ culture; Mouse; Motor neurons; Caspase; Calpain inhibitor; Calpain activity; Apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : Motor neuron degeneration is a critical phenomenon during spinal cord injuries and some neurodegenerative diseases. However, the mechanisms by which cell death is induced in these neurons are poorly understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Regulation of apoptosis in the thyroid epithelium

    Författare :Abeba Demelash; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Thyroid; Apoptosis; Caspase; Calpain; Hydrogen peroxide; TGF-beta; Staurosporine; Selenium; Cytochrome c;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis or programmed cell death allows the multicellular organism to remove cells that are in excess or potentially dangerous. Apoptosis has to be strictly controlled, yet inappropriately activated or suppressed apoptototic may contribute to a variety of diseases, including cancer, autoimmune disorders and neurodegenerative conditions. 3. 3. Aspects of pathological apoptosis in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia

    Författare :Ulrika Hallin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :neonatal; rat; brain; hypoxia-ischemia; necrosis; apoptosis; calpain; caspase; Bcl-2; Bax; mitochondria; calcineurin.;

    Sammanfattning : The cause of mechanisms underlying perinatal brain injury is not fully known, but it results in a wide variety of neurological impairments in the affected children. When injured, neurons of the newborn brain are prone to undergo programmed cell death, apoptosis, since this genetic program is normally activated in some cells during development of the nervous system, even in the perinatal period. 4. 4. Genetic studies of diabetes in northern Sweden

    Författare :Sofia Mayans; Dan Holmberg; Mats Eliasson; Outi Vaarala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; families; genetic; association; SNP; linkage; TCF7L2; CTLA-4; Calpain-10; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus represents a group of metabolic disorders caused by both environmental and genetic factors. The two most common forms of diabetes are type 2 diabetes (T2D) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). T2D is associated with obesity and the disease is caused by insulin resistance and pancreatic b-cell dysfunction. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The IGF-IGFBP system in aerobic exercise : with focus on skeletal muscle

    Författare :Ulrika Berg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IGF-I; IGFBP-1; microdialysis; exercise; IL-6; calpain;

    Sammanfattning : Activity induced skeletal muscle adaptation has been suggested to be mediated largely by intrinsic factors, such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I. IGF-I stimulates muscle glucose and amino acid uptake and promotes anabolism. LÄS MER
