  1. 11. The role of FGF23/Klotho in mineral metabolism and chronic kidney disease

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology

    Författare :Hannes Olauson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2013]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health burden of growing incidence and prevalence. As renal function declines disturbances in mineral metabolism, such as hyperphosphatemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism, inevitably develop. These metabolic changes are closely associated with poor prognosis and survival. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Exercise and regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis factors in human skeletal muscle

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Författare :Jessica Norrbom; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Regular physical activity has many positive implications on health and performance, such as lowered risk for premature death, improved glucose metabolism and cardiovascular function as well as endurance capacity. Even a single bout of exercise is enough stimulus to change expression of many skeletal muscle genes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Conjugated polyelectrolytes : conformation sensitive optical probes for the recording of biological processes

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Författare :Peter Nilsson; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : The physical properties of conjugated polymers can be utilized for a wide range of biosensors. For instance, the conformational flexibility fouud in conjugated polyelectrolytes, allows direct connection between the geometry of chains and the resulting electronic structure and optical processes, since the extension of the π-conjugated system is distorted by conformational changes of the polyelectrolyte backbone. 4. 14. Mechanism of action of autosomal recessive juvenile parkinsonism gene mutations

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

    Författare :Anna Sandebring; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson Disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder. Although PD is a largely sporadic disease, several genes has been linked to familial forms of PD. This thesis focuses on the mechanism of function of the Autosomal Recessively Juvenile Parkinsonism (AR-JP) associated genes parkin, PTEN induced kinase 1 (PINK1) and DJ-1. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Akt signaling and coordinated changes in the distribution and expression of akt-regulating phosphatases

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Institute of Environmental Medicine

    Författare :Aram Ghalali; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2014]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the major causes of death worldwide. The PI3K/Akt signaling pathway is up-regulated in a variety of human cancers. Akt is an important signaling molecule in cellular survival pathways. Activated Akt (pAkt) is able to induce protein synthesis pathways, and is therefore a key protein involved in growth and prevention of apoptosis. LÄS MER
