  1. 1. Environmental Effects from Wave Power : Artificial Reefs and Incidental No-take Zones

    Författare :Anke Bender; Jan Sundberg; Olivia Langhamer; Louise Kregting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine renewable energy; Wave power; Environmental monitoring; Artificial reef; No-take zone; Decapods; Nephrops norvegicus; ROV; Cage fishing; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Marine renewable technologies have rapidly been developing over the past decade. Wave power is one of the renewable sources and has the potential securing the renewable electricity production. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Income diversification as a response to social-ecological traps : A case study of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture in the Tam Giang lagoon, Central Viet Nam

    Författare :Tong Thi Hai Hanh; Wiebren Boonstra; Melissa Marschke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; alternative livelihoods; aquaculture households; income diversification; fishing households; small-scale aquaculture; small-scale fisheries; social-ecological traps; and Tam Giang lagoon; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Many small-scale fishing and aquaculture households in the global South struggle with reinforcing feedbacks between resource degradation and livelihood impoverishment – a situation that is often resembled to a social-ecological trap. Studies suggest that facilitation of income diversification contributes to mitigation and even prevention of trap situations as it reduces exploitation pressure while at the same time makes the households’ livelihood more resilient. 3. 3. Predictive Modelling of Aquatic Ecosystems at Different Scales using Mass Balances and GIS

    Författare :Andreas Gyllenhammar; Lars Håkanson; Lars Brydsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; mass balance model; dynamic model; scales; marine fish farms; rainbow trout; nutrients; suspended particulate matter; phosphorus; nitrogen; GIS; basin delineation; regionalisation; coastal areas; aquatic foodweb; fishing quotas; Baltic Sea; Archipelago Sea; Okavango Delta; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents models applicable for aquatic ecosystems. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) form an important part of the thesis. The dynamic mass balance models focus on nutrient fluxes, biotic/abiotic interactions and operate on different temporal and spatial scales (site, local, regional and international). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aquatic vegetation in coastal ecosystems : The role of biotic interactions and environmental change for ecosystem functions and resilience in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Åsa Austin; Johan S. Eklöf; Joakim P. Hansen; Serena Donadi; Matthew E. S. Bracken; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; ecosystem functions; ecosystem multifunctionality; water clarity; fish recruitment; functional traits; feedbacks; biotic interactions; competition; facilitation; foundation species; seagrass; macrophytes; lagoons; brackish water; Baltic Sea; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal ecosystems are among the most productive on Earth but subjected to many human pressures. In shallow coastal areas, aquatic vegetation constitutes foundation species that sustain secondary production and act as a nutrient filter, which may buffer human impacts. LÄS MER
