  1. 1. Evaluations of Non-metallic Inclusionsin Ca-treated Steels and Their Effect on the Machinability

    Författare :Hongying Du; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusions; Ca treatment; stainless steel; machinability.; icke-metalliska inneslutningar; kalciumbehandling; rostfritt stål; skärbarhet.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : In recent decades, a considerable development of steel with respect to the performance of steel has taken place, which also has resulted in large challenges to process these steel grades. Therefore, it is essential to make suitable modifications of non-metallic inclusions (NMI) in the steelmaking process and to have a good control of its characteristics to meet the target mechanical properties and to obtain a good machinability. 2. 2. Microstructure and Wear of CVD Coatings used in Metal Cutting Applications

    Författare :Andreas Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MTCVD; Ca-treated steel; EFTEM; CVD; TEM; Ti C; alfa-Al2O3; gamma-Al2O3; wear; kappa-Al2O3; N ; EELS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the microstructural characterisation of wear resistant Al2O3 and Ti(C,N)coatings produced by chemical vapour deposition on cemented carbide cutting tools. The investigation focuses on the effect of deposition conditions on the microstructure and the microstructural evolution of the coatings during heat-treatments and metal cutting. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The vision of this thesis is to study how it is possible to obtain optimised workpieces during metal cutting processes in industry. Specifically, the work is aimed to increase the understanding between the steel characteristics and their link to the chip breaking and tool wear during metal cutting. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Inclusion Characteristics and Their Link to Tool wear in Metal Cutting of Clean Steels Suitable for Automotive Applications

    Författare :Niclas Ånmark; Andrey Karasev; Pär Göran Jönsson; Thomas Björk; Jinming Zhou; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool wear; PCBN; Machinability; Steel; Non-metallic inclusions; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis covers some aspects of hard part turning of carburised steels using a poly‑crystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) cutting tool during fine machining. The emphasis is on the influence of the steel cleanliness and the characteristics of non‑metallic inclusions in the workpiece on the active wear mechanisms of the cutting tool. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Non-metallic inclusions in pipeline steels and their effect on the corrosion resistance

    Författare :Elena Sidorova; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pipeline steels; Ca-treatment; non-metallic inclusions; electrolytic extraction; corrosion; chemical extraction; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning :  This thesis focus on investigations of the influence of non-metallic inclusions on corrosion in steel samples taken at different stages of the steel production when producing pipeline steels. The electrolytic extraction technique was used to extract inclusions from these steel samples and thereafter studying them using scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive microscopy.
