1. Enzymatic Regulation of Steroidogenesis and Nuclear Receptor Activation : Special Focus on Vitamin D and Sex Hormones
Sammanfattning : Enzyme-catalyzed reactions are important to regulate steroidogenesis and nuclear receptor activation. The present investigation examines the role of steroid metabolism catalyzed by CYP7B1 for regulation of hormone receptor activation and the effects of vitamin D on enzymatic regulation of steroidogenesis. 2. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia, cyp21a2 deficiency : clinical and physiological aspects of pregnancy, screening and growth
Sammanfattning : The subjects dealt with in this thesis are clinical aspects of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), such as neonatal screening, growth and the incidence of CAH during the last century in Sweden. In addition, we have used CAH as a model system to study possible prenatal effects of androgen exposure on growth and gestational length. LÄS MER
3. Mechanisms in disorders of sex development
Sammanfattning : “Is it a boy or a girl?” This is usually the first question that parents have when their baby is born. Sometimes it is not possible to give an immediate answer. This is the case when the newborn presents ambiguous external genitalia and an immediate sex assignment is not possible. LÄS MER
4. Steroidogenesis studied in a human adrenocortical cell line : effects of single chemicals and mixtures
Sammanfattning : Steroidogenesis may be a target for endocrine disrupting chemicals; unfortunately data of such effects is limited. The aim of this thesis was to study effects on steroidogenesis of single chemicals and mixtures in the human adrenocarcinoma cell line H295R. Screening for effects on steroid secretion was performed by ELISA. LÄS MER
5. Long-term effects of pre- and postnatal glucocorticoid treatment in congenital adrenal hyperplasia
Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder mostly caused by mutations in the CYP21A2 gene leading to impaired production of cortisol and aldosterone. Precursors in the steroidogenic pathway are shunted to pathways of androgen production and elevated levels of androgens may cause virilization of the external genitalia in females with CAH already in utero.
