1. Functional Screens Identify Vulnerabilities in Acute Leukemia
Sammanfattning : Acute leukemia refers to a group of aggressive hematological malignancies of myeloid and lymphoid lineages termed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) respectively. Acute leukemia is characterized by the presence of underlying genetic aberrations which alter the biology of normal hematopoietic cells resulting in the accumulation of immature abnormally differentiated blast cells. 2. Glioma as an Ecosystem : Studies of Invasion, Onco-miR Addiction and Mast Cell Infiltration
Sammanfattning : Despite recent advances in oncology and extensive research efforts, gliomas remain essentially incurable. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM, WHO grade IV) is the most common glioma and may arise de novo or progress from a lower-grade lesion. GBM is characterized by invasive growth, aberrant angiogenesis and necrosis. LÄS MER
3. Accelerated wound healing by on-site production and delivery of CXCL12
Sammanfattning : Non-healing wounds is a growing medical problem, often associated with pathological conditions such as diabetes and peripheral ischemia. A non-healing wound entails a large amount of suffering for the patient, and demands extensive health care resources. LÄS MER
4. Promoting healing of skin and mucosa by immunomodulation using CXCL12 producing lactic acid bacteria : From bench to bedside
Sammanfattning : Immunotherapies direct the immune system to respond in a certain way, such as to fight cancer or to dampen inflammation. In this thesis, a new immunotherapy, ILP100, is developed using a technology that allows for local production of short-lived immunoregulatory proteins that previously have been undruggable. LÄS MER
5. Exploring immune cell functions and ways to make use of them
Sammanfattning : In addition to host defense, alternative functions of immune cells are emerging. Immune cells are crucial during healing of injured tissue, in formation of new blood vessels, angiogenesis, and also in maintaining the balance in inflammation having immune regulating functions.
