21. On the Internal Sizing Mechanisms of Paper with AKD and ASA Related to Surface Chemistry, Wettability and Friction
Sammanfattning : Paper and board are hydrophobized (sized) to control the spreading and absorption of waterbased inks and retard the absorption and edge penetration of liquid packaging by aqueous liquids. Alkenyl ketene dimers (AKD) and alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) are synthetic sizing agents that are generally used under neutral or slightly alkaline papermaking conditions. LÄS MER
22. Absorbent Materials from Kraft Pulp
Sammanfattning : SuperAbsorbent Polymers (SAPs) have, since being introduced in the 1980s, become an important constituent in hygiene products, such as disposable diapers. The design of disposable diapers has changed over the years and today thinner products can be produced partly because of the excellent absorption and retention properties of the petrochemical-based SAPs. 23. Mechanical Pulp. Effects of Pretreatment and Wood Source on Fiber Separation and Pulp Properties
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the mechanical pulping process and the effects of wood source and pretreatment conditions on the pulp properties. In the first part, the deformation of Norway spruce (Picea abies) wood samples was investigated under shear and torsional loading at different temperatures (20-95°C) and sulfonation conditions. 25. Process Intensification through Acoustic and Hydrodynamic Cavitation
Sammanfattning : Process industries are cornerstones in today’s industrialized world. They contribute significantly to the development of diverse commodities and materials that are used in our daily lives. Process intensification is an approach implemented to boost manufacturing efficiency and capacities in a more sustainable and energy efficient way. LÄS MER
