11. Enhancing T cell mediated immunity in DNA vaccination
Sammanfattning : For centuries infectious diseases have been one of the main causes of death in the world. With the invention of vaccine technology 200 years ago, we have been able to impede and even eradicate several dangerous pathogens. LÄS MER
12. Immunological recognition and tumor escape mechanisms of ovarian carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Ovarian carcinoma is a leading cause of cancer mortality and there is an urgent need for new and better therapeutic modalities that result in improved long-term outcome for this severe malignancy. One promising treatment modality for patients suffering from ovarian carcinoma is immunotherapy. LÄS MER
13. HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa : studies of immune responses, prevailing viruses and epidemiological trends
Sammanfattning : This thesis encompasses immunological, virological and epidemiological studies of HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections in Guinea-Bissau. We have established a robust and reliable diagnostic strategy based on a combination of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and rapid simple tests. LÄS MER
14. T-lymphocyte mediated killing of TAP-deficient tumor cells and immunodominance of minor histocompatibility antigens
Sammanfattning : Target structures and regulation of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) mediated responses is the subject of this thesis. One main finding is that cells devoid of a functional transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) appear to express novel epitopes that can be recognized by syngenic CTL. LÄS MER
15. Binding and immunogenicity of MHC class-I specific peptides and glycopeptides
Sammanfattning : Short synthetic MHC class I (MHC-I) Db and Kb binding peptides were found to be strongly immunogenic and capable of inducing virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses. Restimulation of primed splenocytes with a low peptide concentration generated optimal CTL responses. LÄS MER
