  1. 1. Thin-fibre signalling in humans: Cortical processing of sensory afference and autonomic efference

    Författare :Karin Rylander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :CT afferent; thin fibre; autonomic; insula; fMRI;

    Sammanfattning : Thin nerve fibres innervate the entire human body and mediate sensations such as pain, temperature and visceral sensory input. Moreover, a special class of unmyelinated afferents responsive to light touch has recently been found in humans: C-tactile (CT) fibres. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A pathway for pleasant touch: linking peripheral receptors to central processing and hedonic experience

    Författare :Line Sofie Löken; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pleasant; touch; microneurography; human; CT afferent; unmyelinated;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the mechanisms underpinning pleasant touch, describes a pathway from peripheral nerve endings in the skin to the insular cortex, and relates these findings to the subjective hedonic experience of touch. In Paper I, the relationship between primary afferent encoding and perception of pleasantness was investigated by combining microneurography recordings from human mechanoreceptors with psychophysical measurements during soft brush stroking at 6 different velocities between 0. 3. 3. Investigations of human cortical processing of gentle touch. A study with time-resolved electro-magnetic signal analysis

    Författare :Elin Eriksson Hagberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aβ afferent; C-tactile; touch; EEG; MEG; SEEG;

    Sammanfattning : The present work summarizes investigations of the temporal correlates of brain activity elicited by gentle, moving touch on the hairy skin in healthy participants and in epilepsy patients. Light touch to the hairy skin activates two distinct afferent classes: fast conducting, Aβ afferents and slowly conducting C-tactile (CT) afferents. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Physiological properties of unmyelinated low-threshold tactile (CT) afferents in the human hairy skin

    Författare :Katarina Wiklund Fernström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; microneurography; mechanoafferent; unmyelinated; sensory; touch; temperature; capsaicin;

    Sammanfattning : For more than a decade it has been known that human skin is supplied with a system of slowly conducting unmyelinated afferents that respond strongly to innocuous skin deformation (Nordin, 1990; Vallbo et al., 1993). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Författare :Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
