  1. 1. Pathogenesis of infections related to foreign devices within the cerebral ventricles

    Författare :Fredrik Lundberg; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; CSF-shunt; complement activation; vitronectin; hydrocephalus; coagulase-negative staphylococci; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coagulase-negative staphyloccoci (CoNS) are the most frequently isolated micro-organisms from infected cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts and temporary ventricular drainage catheters, used in modern neurosurgery. CoNS originate from the skinflora of the patient or the surgeon and gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion, but the infection can erupt up to a year later or more. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Binding of plasma proteins by Staphylococcus epidermidis: characterisation of protein-protein interactions

    Författare :Dai-Qing Li; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; mice and immunisation; biomaterial-associated infections; von Willebrand factor; thrombospondin; clusterin; Staphylococcal receptins; vitronectin; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), in particular, Staphylococcus epidermidis, have emerged as major nosocomial pathogens associated with infections of implanted medical devices. These organisms, which are among the most prevalent bacteria of the human skin and mucous membrane microflora, gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Population-based studies of higher-level gait disorders and hydrocephalus : focused on brain ventricular morphometry and patient outcomes following shunt surgery

    Författare :Jenny Larsson; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Hanna Israelsson Larsen; Lars-Owe D. Koskinen; Uwe Kehler; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: To study gait is of great importance for the health of the aging population. Higher-level gait disorders (HLGD) are characterized by a slow, symmetrical, unsteady gait. Its cause is most often unknown. HLGD in combination with ventriculomegaly (i. LÄS MER
