  1. 1. Neuropsychiatric background factors to violent crime

    Författare :Henrik Söderström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :forensic psychiatry; AD HD; autism; conduct disorder; SPECT; HVA; 5-HIAA; CSF; PCL-R; aggression; violence; psychosis; mood disorder; abuse; and anxiety;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims. Mental disorders among perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes differ from those in the general population in prevalence, course, and patterns of comorbidity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Season of birth in suicidology : neurobiological and epidemiological studies

    Författare :Jayanti Chotai; Hans Ågren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; season of birth; CSF monoamine metabolites; suicide method; borderline;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Several neuropsychiatrie disorders have shown season of birth associations. Low cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of the serotonin metabolite 5-HIAA and the dopamine metabolite HVA have been associated with suicidal behaviour, impulsivity, and aggression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals

    Författare :Dimitrios Andreou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia. 4. 4. Biomarkers of suicide risk in psychosis

    Författare :Andreas Carlborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gender; CSF; 5-HIAA; HVA; psychosis; survival; schizophrenia; suicide; suicide attempt; long-term follow-up; early death; KYNA;

    Sammanfattning : Suicide and attempted suicide are major health problems. Approximately 1400 people die from suicide every year in Sweden and ten times more attempt suicide. Patients with schizophrenia spectrum psychosis have an increased risk of suicide and suicide rates have been suggested to be as high as 10%. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Survival analytic studies of suicide risk

    Författare :Peter Nordström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Suicide risk; suicide; attempted suicide; mood disorder; serotonin; CSF 5-HIAA; personality; temperament; birth cohort analysis; survival analysisStockholm 1995;

    Sammanfattning : Suicide is a major cause of death in Sweden, as measured by potential years of life lost, and suicidal behavior is a grave public health problem. Suicide risk assessment and prediction in the clinical setting is a task of paramount concern to psychiatric services. LÄS MER
