6. WNT signaling in microglia : WNTs as novel regulators of microglia
Sammanfattning : Microglia, the immunocompetent cells of the central nervous system (CNS) and the brain’s own macrophages are the most motile cells in the CNS and those with highest plasticity, as they rapidly move their projections to actively screen their environment for any type of injury. Upon cell damage or infection, microglia respond quickly: they proliferate, change morphology from ramified to amoeboid state to migrate or invade towards the injury, secrete many types of cytokines and chemokines to communicate with other inflammatory cells, and phagocytose cell debris. 7. Recurrent Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer
Sammanfattning : A characteristic feature of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is the high risk of recurrent disease after primary treatment. Although only a minority of cases eventually progress to a life-threatening muscle-invasive tumour, it is necessary to conduct long-term follow-up with repeated cystoscopies. LÄS MER
8. Genetic factors, body constitution, and tumor characteristics in relation to breast cancer prognosis
Sammanfattning : Prior advancements in research on biomarkers and prognostic host factors have made it increasingly clear that breast cancer is an immensely heterogeneous disease. It remains difficult to predict which patients will benefit from different breast cancer treatments. Hence, interest in personalized medicine is internationally wide-spread and growing. LÄS MER
9. Defining the Role of GGTase-I in the Development of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : RHO family proteins control cell movement and intracellular signaling by cycling between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. Aberrant signaling of RHO GTPases has been implicated in many diseases including cancer and inflammation. LÄS MER
10. The interactome of the yeast mitochondrial ribosome : Organization of mitochondrial post-transcriptional regulation, membrane protein insertion and quality control
Sammanfattning : The proteins found in mitochondria originate from two different genetic systems. Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and post-translationally imported into the organelle. However, a small subset of mitochondrial proteins is encoded in an organelle-resident genome. LÄS MER
