16. Biomarkers for colon cancer : applications in human and rat studies
Sammanfattning : Colon cancer is one of the major causes of cancer in industrialized countries, and it is caused by a combination of hereditary, environmental and dietary factors and lack of physical activity. Of these factors, diet is one of the most important. LÄS MER
17. Dietary and genetic factors in the etiology of prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : The etiology of prostate cancer is poorly understood. However, genetic factors may be more important than for many other malignancies. In addition, several studies suggest that dietary factors axe of etiologic importance. In particular, dietary intake of phytoestrogens or marine fatty adds from fish may protect against prostate cancer development. LÄS MER
18. Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome : pathophysiology of the vestibular mucosa
Sammanfattning : Objective: The main purpose of the study was to survey possible pathophysiological changes of the vestibular mucosa in women with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome with regard to the clinical findings of superficial dyspareunia and mucosal erythema. Methods: Biopsies analysed with immunohistochemistry were used to study the morphology, distribution and neuropeptide content of the peripheral nerves, and the microvascularisation of the vestibular mucosa. 19. Bioassay Development for Identification of Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors of Natural Origin
Sammanfattning : To examine cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory effects of natural compounds and structurally related compounds, a radiochemical assay for measuring inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1 catalysed prostaglandin biosynthesis was optimised. That process resulted in the development of a reliable assay for finding COX-2 inhibitors in plants, and for investigating plant constituents pertaining to the inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1. LÄS MER
20. Studies on the Effects of Plant and Food Constituents on Cyclooxygenase-2 : Aspects in Inflammation and Cancer
Sammanfattning : In inflammatory events, the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin biosynthesis. This is a process, which could possibly be affected by natural compounds including those abundant in food. Two systems have been established to enable investigations of the effects of natural compounds on COX-2. LÄS MER
