  1. 1. Pre- and post-copulatory sexual selection in the fowl, Gallus gallus

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cryptic female choice; Gallus; inbreeding avoidance; mate choice; sexual conflict; sexual selection; sperm competition; Ethology and behavioural ecology; Etologi och beteendeekologi; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : The evolutionary goal of individuals is reproduction and sexual selection favours traits improving reproductive success. When males invest less than females in offspring, males have potentially a higher reproductive rate than females. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ecology, sexual selection and variable mating tactics in fallow deer (Dama dama)

    Författare :Cheryl Jones Fur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates ecological and evolutionary mechanisms behind the variation in male mating behaviour in fallow deer (Dama dama) populations. Two Swedish populations of fallow deer were studied, a semi-wild enclosed population on the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea (Ottenby), and a deer farm located north of Uppsala (Bälinge). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nest-site attendance and foraging ecology of the Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) on the Faroe Islands. Is the Northern Fulmar a useful indicator of ecosystem productivity and pollution?

    Författare :Johannis Danielsen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nest-site attendance; foraging ecology; indicator species; Fulmar; Fulmarus glacialis; nocturnal activity; ecosystem productivity; pollution; mesopelagic fish;

    Sammanfattning : The Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) is one of the most abundant seabirds in the Northern Hemisphere and the most abundant seabird on the Faroe Islands. Except from a few sporadic observations up until the 1950´s no study has focused on this species on the Faroe Islands. LÄS MER
