  1. 1. Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Periodontal Disease and Conventional Risk Factors in Patients with Stable Coronary Heart Disease

    Författare :Ola Vedin; Claes Held; Emil Hagström; Bertil Lindahl; Mai-Lis Hellenius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary heart disease; Secondary prevention; Prevention; Periodontal Disease; Tooth loss; Risk prediction; Risk factors; Myocardial infarction; Kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the prevalence and management of established cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and the prevalence and influence of self-reported markers (number of teeth and frequency of gum bleeding) of periodontal disease (PD), a less explored CV risk factor, in patients with stable chronic coronary heart disease (CHD).We studied patients from the global STabilization of Atherosclerotic plaque By Initiation of darapLadIb TherapY (STABILITY) trial (n=15,828), in which patients with stable chronic CHD were randomized to either darapladib or placebo. 2. 2. Impact of Risk Factors and Treatment in Coronary Heart Disease

    Författare :Lena Björck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :coronary disease; myocardinal infarction; risk factors; smoking; lipid levels;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore how risk factors and medication influence clinical presentation and mortality in coronary heart disease (CHD) and to explain how much of the decrease in CHD mortality in Sweden that could be attributed to medical and surgical treatments, and how much to changes in cardiovascular risk factors. Subjects and methods: We included 781 consecutive patients with a first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the period 1994 to 2002, to investigate trends in the use of lipid-lowering treatment, and changes in serum lipids. 3. 3. Diabetes Mellitus and Cardiovascular Risk : epidemiology, etiology and intervention

    Författare :Aslak Rautio; Kurt Boman; Anna Norhammar; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: The Framingham Study from 1988 showed a heavy impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the risk and prognosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Several other studies have confirmed that DM is an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD) and that patients with DM have a poor prognosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Diet and Metabolic Risk Factors in Immigrant Women from the Middle East and Swedish-Born Women : A Cross-Sectional Study of Women from Iran, Turkey and Sweden

    Författare :Achraf Daryani; Bengt Vessby; Brita karlström; Per Wändell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Caring sciences; cardiovascular factors; metabolic risk factors; immigrants; Iranian; Turkish; Swedish; Middle East; dietary intake; underreporting; dietary fat; fat sources; antioxidant intake; oxidative stress; inflammation; C-reactive protein; isoprostanes; Vårdvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing number of immigrants in Sweden during the past decades has brought the health of different ethnic groups into focus. Many groups of immigrants in Sweden have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease (CHD) than a Swedish reference group. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Factors influencing adherence to risk factor modification in patients with coronary heart disease

    Författare :Carin Alm; Kardiologiska klinikens forskargrupp; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; coronary heart disease; health-related quality of life; risk factors; secondary prevention; lifestyle modification; Adherence; knowledge; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Adherence to lifestyle modification and pharmacological treatment is of great importance in order to achieve maximum benefits of preventive measures after a cardiac event. Unfortunately, patients are neither adopting adequate lifestyle changes nor do they adhere to prescribed medication. LÄS MER
