  1. 21. Genetic and epigenetic alterations in melanoma

    Författare :Rainer Tuominen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma is a disease that may arise in several different parts of the body, preferentially the skin, rarely in the mucosal membranes or the choroidal tissues of the eye. The incidence of cutaneous melanoma (CMM) is steadily increasing in the Caucasian populations, unlike uveal melanoma (UM) that shows a stable incidence. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis. 3. 23. Molecular studies in different types of melanoma tumors : correlations to clinical data

    Författare :Abdlsattar Zebary; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 90% of melanomas arise from skin sites (known as cutaneous malignant melanoma; CMM), whereas the non-cutaneous melanoma (mucosal and ocular melanomas) are rare, accounting for about 10%. Familial melanoma accounts for up to 10% of patients diagnosed with CMM. Both genetics (e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Ageing and inflammation with focus on end-stage renal diseases : genetic and epigenetic factors

    Författare :Karin Luttropp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of ageing-associated disorders at a relatively young age in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) has led to the hypothesis that CKD is characterized by accelerated ageing, resulting in a marked discrepancy between chronological and biological age. Factors that accelerate biological ageing, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxins, impact the processes of cellular senescence and/or apoptosis, thereby shortening the life span of cells, and consequently, of the organism as a whole. 5. 25. Mechanisms of intestinal tumor initiation and progression in ApcMin mouse model of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Zhiyuan V. Zou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; ApcMin mouse;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a cancer that occurs in the colon or rectum and is one of the most common cancer forms and a leading cause of cancer death in the Western world. The majority of CRCs are caused by inherited or somatic mutations in the APC gene. LÄS MER
