21. Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) proteins : possible prognostic markers in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, and oropharymgeal squamous cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : The human leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) gene family comprises three genes, LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3, which encode the LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3 proteins, respectively. Previous stidies have revealed the different prognostic roles of these proteins in different cancers, and it has been shown that LRIG1 functions as a tumour suppressor in certain cancers via its negative regulation of several receptor tyrosine kinases. 22. Kidney Hyaluronan : Regulatory Aspects During Different States of Body Hydration, Nephrogenesis & Diabetes
Sammanfattning : The kidney regulates the excretion of water and electrolytes, which maintains homeostasis and enables control of arterial blood pressure. Hyaluronan, a large negatively charged interstitial glucosaminoglycan, is heterogeneously distributed within the kidney, primarily found in the medulla. LÄS MER

24. Importance of Hyaluronan-CD44 Signaling in Tumor Progression : Crosstalk with TGFβ and PDGF-BB Signaling
Sammanfattning : In order for solid tumors to metastasize, tumor cells must acquire the ability to invade the surrounding tissue and intravasate into blood- or lymph vessels, survive in the circulation and then extravasate at a distant site to form a new tumor. Overexpression of the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan, and its adhesion receptor CD44, correlate with breast cancer progression. LÄS MER
25. Host control of intracellular bacterial infections
Sammanfattning : In this thesis various immune mechanisms regulating control of infections with the intracellular bacteria Listeria monocytogenes and Chlamydia pneumoniae have been studied. These bacteria infect macrophages in which they can successfully grow. However, macrophages are potent killers of intracellular bacteria. LÄS MER
